At first, you’re met with almost Nebbiolo-like characters of rose and violets, luscious red and black berries and cherry, licorice, Negroni, charcoal and caramelised spice, but after a long decant its accent changes to a more “Burgundian”, savoury and truffled expression with darker fruit and a duck à l’orange meatiness.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the mouth it’s elegant, confident and structured with deeply flavoured fruit that echoes the nose, backed by star anise, clove, caramelised vanilla and coriander seed. A sustain of fleshy tannins grip with tension, while bright acidity carries it all as it powers through its arc to a reaching tail whose length is yet to be defined. Not a hair is out of place in this wine and it feels incredibly complete, something I don’t often say about Australian Pinot Noir. An outstanding release that is as good as it gets!
