Avani 'Issan Vineyard' Pinot Noir
Located in Outtrim, South Gippsland (near Leongatha), Issan Vineyard was established in 1994 by Phillip Jones, founder of Bass Phillip Wines, alongside vigneron Eddy Tee. The four-hectare site is planted at high density (9,000 vines per hectare) with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Since 1998, the Tee family has worked closely with the Bass Phillip team in managing the vineyard. In 2010, they assumed full control, continuing to supply premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay fruit to Bass Phillip through to 2020.
Shashi now returns to her roots in Gippsland. She began her winemaking journey at Bass Phillip Wines in 2004, where she worked extensively with fruit from Issan Vineyard. Her familiarity with the site and its distinctive character has come full circle.
From the 2021 vintage onward, Shashi is crafting wines from Issan in collaboration with the Tee family. Her approach is driven by purity and fruit expression, balancing ripeness with natural acidity to create wines of elegance and longevity.
