This Barossa Valley Shiraz was sourced from our 5 different plots of Shiraz at our home Marananga vineyard. The hand-picked grapes had a two-day cold soak then naturally fermented using indigenous wild yeasts. The ferment was hand plunged three times daily for approximately ten days. Then basket pressed and filled into French oak 20% new and two ear old USA for three weeks of barrel fermentation followed by 18 months maturation. Dark cherries, blueberries and a well-integrated layer of fine French oak make this a powerful but smooth wine.Awards:
95 Points – Sam Kim March 2021 – It’s gorgeously perfumed on the nose showing dark plum, mulberry, spicy oak and dark chocolate notes, followed by a generously flavoured palate that’s velvety and lingering. Plush and satisfying. At its best: 2023 to 2036
94 Points – Tyson Stelzer 2022 Halliday Wine Companion – Estate Marananga vineyard. Basket pressed; matured 16 months in 25% new 85% French and 15% American oak barrels; unfined and unfiltered. Tom White has done a fine job of delivering all the power and might of Marananga without sacrificing an iota of brightness or integrity. Brimming with spicy black/blueberries and stewed satasuma plums, its sweet fruit is married harmoniously with high-cocoa dark chocolate and coffee-bean oak. Firm, fine tannins hold a long finish.
