Bass Phillip Estate Pinot Noir

Variety: Pinot Noir
Region: Gippsland , Victoria
Vintage: 2019

Bass Phillip is named after George Bass and Arthur Phillip – men of great pioneering spirit, foresight and leadership during the nineteenth century. The Bass Phillip vineyards were first established, many years later, in the southeastern corner of Australia in 1979, specialising in high-quality pinot noir and chardonnay wines.Wine-making at Bass Phillip is uncompromising and driven by the respect for nature. The vineyards have been organic since 1993 and biodynamic since 2002.

From the original Estate vineyard;blended with the best fruit from Leongatha Vineyard. The exquisitely balanced single vineyard Estate Pinot Noir draws fruit from the extremely low cropping. After fermentation the wine is gravity racked into a combination of new (60%) and old French Alliers oak for a maturation period of around 15 to 18 months. Wine with attractive, rich fruits in the mid-palate, with the strength to improve up to ten years in the cellar. Bottled without fining or filtration. This is a hugely promising wine, tremendously concentrated and ripely sumptuous. The 2019 wines are essentially Jones’s last vintage, and they’re a great suite of wines to go out with.

"Medium red/purple colour, bright and youthful, a bouquet of cherry and spices, attractive and bold, if a little straightforward. The wine is light to medium-weight, with some extract and texture, the tannins gentle but present on the mid-palate and finish, while the core has delicious fruit sweetness and a touch of succulence. A fine pinot to drink now or keep in the medium-term." - Huon Hooke 93 Points
