Deep magenta in colour: aromatic and lifted with an array of scents that include: blood plum, red berries, smoky chacuterie, cinnamon, Szechuan pepper and the sweet smell of sous bois lingering in the background.
Dardell , The palate is textural and rolling with dark chocolate tinged with orange zest , wood spices, blood plums, black pepper, refreshing acidity and fine grain tannins giving palate drive and allowing the flavours to linger.
This Cool Climate Shiraz has grace and refinement yet it also shows restrained power. It becomes even more complex and tight with decanting and breathing for an hour or more.Awards:
It’s not often I find myself reviewing a shiraz that really thinks it’s a high-end pinot noir. That’s what I’m doing here, although – like many a pinot of great breeding – this wine will build depth and structure quite dramatically over the next 5-8 years. Its musky, faintly mocha-like bouquet of smoked duck, dark cherries, raspberries and red-currants is laced with earthy notes of Pu Er tea and exotic spice. Long and supple, with a plush core of mouth filling black and red fruit, it extends long, supple and seamless down a tight-grained, drying and dusty spine that is certain to become firmer. Huon Hooke :
Deep, dark red colour with glints of purple and black. The bouquet is sweetly super-ripe, very bunchy and almost jammy. A really pungent shiraz, with spice and vegetable nuances. The palate has firm but elegant tannins and very vibrant acidity. The vegetal notes - evidently from a solid whole-bunch component - permeate the wine. It does seem extremely ripe - it has that luscious, decadent fruit reminiscent of very ripe-year northern Rhône syrah. A sensational wine, but not quite ready. I'd cellar it. (Two days later, it was still drinking superbly. Sadly, the last vintage from this vineyard.)
